Conference: The potential of intent sharing in inland shipping

On 16 November, an international conference will be held on the subject of intention sharing in inland shipping.

Intention sharing can be the next step in inland shipping and may also have big advantages for seagoing vessels. In the project ‘intention sharing,’ part of the Smart Shipping program of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, a completely new approach has been tested. Instead of letting the captain figure out the intentions of other ships, the surrounding ships will communicate their intentions to the captain.

This summer, a simulator experiment has been carried out with three suppliers of inland navigation track pilot systems: the German company Argonics, Belgium-based Tresco and Dutch innovator Shipping Technology. During the extensive experiment in MARIN’s simulation centre, all three systems were sharing and using data to inform the captains.

To make you familiar with the concept and present to you the results of the experiment, a short conference named ‘the potential of intent sharing in inland shipping ‘ will be organized on:

16th November 2022, from 13.00 till 17:00 in Rotterdam

The conference will have contributions from Colin Guiking (MARIN), Alexander Lutz (Argonics), Yves Hacha (Tresco) and David Woudenberg (Shipping Technology).
The next phase of the project will also be addressed in the conference.
