Live demonstration of autonomous e-barge operations in the Port of Rotterdam
On Thursday, 11 June 2026, the Port of Rotterdam Authority and partners of the European MAGPIE-project will host a unique live demonstration of an autonomous e-barge operating in a real port environment.
In one of the worldโs busiest ports, you will experience firsthand what terminal-to-terminal autonomous navigation with collision avoidance looks like in practice: live on the water. The demonstration will take place on the Nieuwe Maas and in the Waalhaven port basin. The e-barge will sail autonomously from terminal to terminal in a real operational environment, navigating autonomously alongside regular commercial traffic.
As part of the European MAGPIE project, this event marks a pivotal moment: autonomous navigation moving from controlled testing to real-world deployment. It brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to explore the technology and its implications for the future of port operations and maritime logistics.
The program consists of a seminar offering insights into both the technology and its role in sustainable ports of the future, and a live on-water demonstration via a television screen.
