WARRANT Project supports smarter, safer and greener shipping

In April 2025 the new European Project WARRANT “WAterborne fedeRated systems and models for secuRe and resilieNt operations ” (https://warrant-project.eu/) was launched, organized by a consortium of 14 Partners including INLECOM (BE) being the project coordinator, TU Delft (Maritime and Transport Technology Department) being the Scientific Coordinator, as well as SINTE OCEAN & DIGITAL (NO), DNV (NO), NTUA (GR), DST (DE), TECHNALIA (SP), SEAFAR (BE), DANAOS Shipping (CY), KONNECTA (GR), VLTN (BE), AELER (CH), Port of Antwerp-Bruges (BE).

WARRANT is a Horizon Europe Research & Innovation Action that develops a unified methodology and digital platform to enhance the safety, resilience, and cybersecurity of Waterborne Digital Systems (WDS). The project addresses the challenges of modern maritime digitalisation by combining AI – enabled risk analysis, safe and resilient control, federated data spaces, and real-world validation through four Living Labs: LL1- Containerships (DANAOS Shipping), LL2- SMART Containers (AELER), LL3- Autonomous Green Vessels (DST), LL4-Vessel Remote Control Operations (SEAFAR). WARRANT supports smarter, greener, and safer shipping aligned with European policy goals.

The TU Delft is the scientific contributor to the novel design of an intelligent dependability supervision framework that diagnoses in real time abnormal events (e.g. sensor faults, cyber attacks, thruster faults), mitigates their effects by applying suitable control reconfiguration actions and activating novel virtual sensors/actuators, and assesses online the dependability (i.e. reliability, safety, availability, security) of WDS.  The developed methods will be utilized to ensure the safe, resilient and secure port operations of container ships, navigation of autonomous inland vessels, and the remote controlled inland navigation, as well as to ensure safety against fire in containers.
